The sacral chakra is the second chakra. It is associated with the emotional body, sensuality, and creativity. Its element is water and as such, its energy is characterized by flow and flexibility. The function of the sacral chakra is directed by the principle of pleasure. The energy of this chakra allows you to let go, to move, and to feel change and transformation occurring within your body. It allows you to experience this moment as it is, in its own fullness.

We live in a society where feelings are not valued, where passion, and emotional reactions are being frowned upon. We are being taught not to "loose control". And we get disconnected from our bodies, our feelings.

We also experience the wounds of our collective cultural struggles over many sexual issues of our society. On one hand sexuality is magnified and glorified, and on the other hand it is rejected. No wonder we have so many issues with our passion center, the wellspring of feelings, enjoyment, and sensuality.

As humans, it is part of our nature to create. This creativity can be expressed when we cook, bake, or garden, paint, draw, design a website we are creating. We create when we find a new solution to an old problem. Any time we take raw materials, physical or mental, and transform them into something new, we are using our creative energy.

Where is the Sacral Chakra?

The most common location for the sacral chakra is about three inches below the navel, at the center of your lower belly. In the back, it’s located at the level of the lumbar vertebrae.

Other noteworthy locations described in different systems, expand its location to the genital area, especially at the level of ovaries for women and the testicles for men.

Meditation is very helpful in chakra balancing and cleansing. A simple meditation exercise will consist of visualizing an orange lotus or an orange crescent moon in the sacral area.
